Youth
We make a conscious effort to provide enjoyable activities for the Youth at Leamington Mission. We feel that keeping them interested in the things that they learn at church is very important. Not only that, but also to keep relationships between the young people strong by providing activities that build team work, relaxation and provide enjoyable social time and LOTS of fun! We had a recent teen/youth event at the end of September 2005, where we spent the weekend at a Log Cabin near Solihull, Birmingham. We had people attend from the South and the North (as far as Scotland!), and had a fantastic time (according to them)! We regularly (normally at least once a month) have Saturday night activities that have in the past included swimming, bonfires and fireworks, sleepovers at the Mission with games and lovely meals. We also have Sabbath 'Away days' where everyone goes cycling and walking, amongst other things, according to preference, with a worship service in the afternoon, a BBQ, and activities such as tobogganing in the evening.
One of our main priorities is that Youth Sabbath school should be relevant to the things that teenagers deal with in the real world. This provides an environment to allow them to discuss things that can be applied in their everyday lives and we cover subjects that are both stimulating, interesting and above all challenging! It is very important that it is relevant to them and their experiences. This brings good discussions, fun activities, and application of what they learn to their own lives and decision making.
It's a tough time to stick to religion, but when you make it more than just "Churchy" stuff and make it personal and fun, it goes a long way. Our aim is to make it enjoyable without neglecting the principle of why we are all there.
