Shoebox Appeal: Latvia
On the 26th November 2005, Leamington Spa Mission church set about making up shoeboxes for children in Latvia. The event was organised by Nigel and Diana Clark and supported by number of church members of all ages. The afternoon went very well with organised groups wrapping the boxes, selecting the items for the correct age groups and others filling the completed boxes.
In addition to this a number of members produced their own boxes as well as 16 boxes from a brownies group, six from Stratford employment centre and six from one member alone.
This was a fantastic effort by all involved and very rewarding. In total we managed to bring together over 90 shoeboxes for the appeal.
The boxes were delivered a few days later to ADRA UK Watford.
Two containers of aid were sent on the 7th and 14th December which included 4000 shoeboxes (a record number this year)
The boxes were delivered towards the end of December to orphanages and children’s hospitals in Latvia.
In addition to this ADRA will be donating 200 boxes to the Charity ICC to be delivered to one of their orphanages in Romania.
Thanks to everyone involved, this will make a difference in the lives of the children involved.
