Welcome to the e-Mission newsletter: issue 03

Welcome to the third e-Mission newsletter from the Mission, Leamington Spa!

We hope you're enjoying the summer weather of late - long may the sunshine continue! No doubt, you've been wondering why e-mission has not been out sooner, but better late than never. We've got some good things to tell you about, including news on how you can get better connected to the Mission through a new web feature known as Mission Control. Read on...

Brief Encounters
If you've not visited the Mission website recently, then you won't have noticed a new section called Brief Encounter. With growing visitor numbers and regulars alike, getting to know each other can be a bit difficult when we often only bump into each other once a week on the Sabbath. Brief Encounter helps make getting to know each other that bit easier; it's a chance to have a brief encounter with regular faces at Leamington through a small write up on individuals that make up our eclectic membership. Fancy knowing what someone does for a living, or what they cherish most in life? Take a look at Brief Encounters to find out more about the folk at Leamington Mission.

Mission Control

  • Are you part of a church team at the Mission?

  • Not sure whether you are on the rota for this weekend's drinks?

  • Need a contact number or email for a church member?

  • Want to see a copy of the last set of church business meeting minutes?

  • Forgotten when someone has a birthday in July?

  • Then you need Mission Control!

  • We're pleased to announce some new and secure features on the web site that have been designed to make it easier to become more informed about important events and planned activities at the Mission. This includes access to weekly rotas, including the preaching plan, drinks, sound and vision team rota's, deacons and deaconesses rotas and business meeting minutes. You can also edit your own personal contact details, including email address and phone numbers - so please check these first once you have been assigned an account to make sure they are up to date.

If you are a team leader, then you can register for privileged access to view the main team rotas and any subjects relating to the organisation of church matters. Church members can also get secure access to view historical business meeting minutes and other church related information such as member contact lists. To comply with data protection, we do not share this information with any other third parties whatsoever. In addition, we have instigated a signatory list for everyone to sign to ensure we have your consent for including any contact details for you on the Mission web site. Remember, this is a secure log on and IS NOT open to or viewable by the general public. If you are a regular member or even occasional visitor and have provided your contact details to the church clerk at some point in the past, you should now have had the opportunity to sign a form which has been managed by the web team seeking consent from individuals to include your details on the Mission server. If somehow, you feel you have not provided consent or wish to confirm your details, then feel free to ask a member of the web team for details.

If you require access to Mission Control, please see James Haslam or Phil Gilbert, who will arrange for passwords and log-on id's to be provided. We ask that you keep these secure, memorise them and do not write these down. We can always re-set your details should you lose or forget them.

    Quarterly Rotas
If you are a leader of a Church Officer's team, please can you update and issue your latest quarterly rota to Rudi Puskas, James Haslam, Phil Gilbert and BL Pretorius. These can then be consolidated and uploaded to Mission Control.

    Reflections from the last quarter

    Aberdaron retreat
A recent gathering of young folk attended a long weekend break at Aberdaron Advent Camp in June. We were blessed with fantastic weather and plenty of outdoor fresh air. Thanks go to Kristina Pearce for organising this relaxing weekend, which was both spiritually and physically refreshing.

    The Alpha Marriage Course
The Alpha Marriage Course was recently promoted at Leamington and duly began in May and is aimed at engaged and married couples. Spread over 8 sessions, the course is designed to help any couple strengthen their relationship. It's a great opportunity to spend time together as a couple looking at the important issues in your relationship. If you would like to register interest in a future course, then please talk to BL Pretorius. Also, look out for the next Alpha Course later in the year!

    Compassion
As a church, please remember our two sponsored children under the Compassion programme, Daniel Nthkirutimana, (10), from Rwanda, and Rehema Karisa, (9), from Kenya. An important part of being a sponsor is to build a relationship with Daniel and Rehema and this can be achieved through writing letters on a regular basis. It only takes 5 minutes and can bring a smile to their faces to see people who care and want to help make a difference in their lives. If you would like to write to Daniel or Rehema, please speak to Kristina Pearce.

What's happening in the next quarter

Pastoral Team Meeting, 1st July, from 2.30pm
If you have any requests that you would like to make, please feel free to speak to a member of the pastoral team.

    Sabbath Breakfast, 1st July, 10am
Over a bring-and-share* breakfast, join us in a friendly and casual Christian-focused chat, as well as having the opportunity to make new friends and catch-up on all the goings-on of the previous week. The breakfast will begin at 10:00 sharply on the 1st Sabbath of every month, and will be available for anyone who wishes to come along, before leading into the normal Sabbath School programme. Come along and begin your day of rest in the happiest way, with the warm and inviting fellowship of The Mission.
*We would be grateful if you could bring along breads, pastries, fruit, drinks, etc. However, please try to avoid cereals and food that requires cooking / preparing.

Kids Club, 8th July, from 2.30pm
Every second Sabbath (Saturday) in the month we run a children's fun club from 2.30 to 4.30pm. Ideally suited for those aged 5-11, the sessions deliver a fun packed 2 hour array of arts, crafts, games, singing and more, so make sure you come along! For more info, contact Pat Lanham.

NOTICE: We are looking for support to assist Pat Lanham in running the monthly club. We need people who can commit 2 hours a month to bring some fun and joy into the lives of 5-11 year olds through organised crafts and activities every second Sabbath in the month. You do not have to organise anything in advance - all materials and instructions will be provided by Pat. To make the club run smoothly, reliability is the number one priority. Pat depends on people who can forge good working and friendly relationships within the team and with the kids to support what is our biggest outreach programme. If you have an interest in sports, crafts, organising games or simply assisting with serving drinks during breaks, you can make an important contribution. Additionally, if we can secure enough helpers, then we will look to put a rota together so you do not have to be available for every session. To find out more, please speak to Pat Lanham.

    General News

    Congratulations!
BL Pretorius and Dan Vine on their recent engagement. We wish them well for their impending marriage and God's blessings for the future together.

    New side room almost ready!
Work is nearing completion on converting the former store room along the side corridor of the church to support our ever growing needs. This room will be available in the coming weeks and will be a private room for mothers with babies needing privacy and will also provide much needed accommodation to support expanding Sabbath school classes. Thanks go to the many people who cleared the rubbish out and transformed the store room into a much needed resource.

    Also, some last minute news...
Look out for an update shortly to appear on the website from Steve and Catherine McGoldrick who are working as missionaries in Sierra Leone.

    Email updates

If your email is likely to change in the near future and you would like to continue to receive weekly and quarterly updates, please let James Haslam, Phil Gilbert and Rudi Puskas know.
